My Style?
Real Life. Real Smiles. Real Laughter. Real You!

The best portraits are those that are natural, so I want you to feel at ease during your session. At every portrait session, I strive to capture more than just how you look. My goal is to tell a story…YOUR story. Who you are today, right now, in this moment. Silly children are allowed (and encouraged!) to be silly! Moody teens are never asked to say cheese! Don’t want to pose in front of the fireplace? Good, because I wasn’t going to ask you to! Portraiture has come a long way in the last few years and I am SO excited about it! Rather than being told how to pose or where to stand the entire time, you can expect to hear me tell you to “Be yourselves and have fun!” Just enjoy each other! I will help you with minimal posing to create a flattering portrait and some direction to ensure variety in your portrait collection.

Before your session, we will work together to find the perfect location for the feel you are looking for. Once your session is booked we will discuss clothing options and the look and feel you want in your story. A few days after your session, I will post a few of my favorite images from your session on my blog for your “Sneak Peek”. From start to finish, the experience is customized just for you and your family.

So relax, let the kids pick out their own outfits, be yourself and let’s have a blast!!

My Digital Philosophy

Let’s face it….It is the digital age. As more and more things move to digital, photography being one of them, it only makes sense that your portraits are provided to you in digital format as well. With iPods, digital frames, Facebook and more…you want them! I want you to have them! Your images tell a story, and they belong together. I want you to have all of them, without the pressure of having to only choose certain sizes or only a few. Therefor, I offer high-resolution digital images on a high quality Flash Drive or DVD.

The Investment

Session Fee: Option A | $150
This Session fee includes my time and talent only. Prints and products are available in collections and via al a carte. Images are presented in a password protected online ordering gallery.

Session Fee: Option B | $350
This Session fee includes my time and talent and your all final session images printable up to 8x10 on a custom Flash Drive or DVD. $50 of your session fee is non-refundable and is required to reserve your session date and time. The remaining balance is due either on or before the session and provides your custom on-location portrait session, 30 or more processed images for your flash drive and your password protected online gallery. The images are brought to a published level of processing, but just under the level suggested for albums or enlargements/wall portraits. If albums are ordered, the images featured within the albums will be brought to the suggested level complimentary. If albums are not ordered you may add this service to all the images that would be included in your package for an additional $100.00. Examples of such editing: all baby acne removed, all blemishes retouched, a scratch removed from every image, etc.

The following session types are offered for the above session options:

1st/48: the bonding session held within the 1st 48 hours of birth at the hospital. These crucial 48 hours are the most intimate moments between mother and babe.

NEWBORN: a special session that captures the interaction between mom, dad, siblings and baby (less then 20 days old) in the comfort of your home, or in my studio. At this session your baby will also be captured as art by him or herself and interaction with siblings and parents. Schedule prior to your baby's birth, then we'll schedule a time for the session after the baby is here. I include a 20-30 minute mini-maternity in-studio session with all my newborns.

BABIES & TODDLERS: held on location or in studio, these sessions capture your child the way you know them. Lots of smiles and laughter ending with a trip for frozen custard on the house, my favorite!

CHILDREN & FAMILY: lifestyle family portraiture that captures you as a family, the way you know each other! All family sessions are scheduled in your home or on location somewhere in the Denver-Metro area. Immediate family members only, each additional head is $25.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS: Senior sessions with me are fun and funky in multiple locations and multiple clothing changes.

COUPLES: Capture the bond and love you share!

Birth | Labor | Delivery | Life

"There is a sacred, intimate mood to birth photography. It is not to be taken lightly. It is, in it's simplest form, the documentation of a miracle." -Nichelle Lawrence

These are not typical portrait sessions; the lighting is usually terrible and it's very difficult to plan or assume what's going to happen. However, the images will be mere glimpses of your life unfolding into something miraculous and beautiful... becoming parents.

Why should we document the birth of our baby?
The day you bring your children into this world, is by far the most important day of both your lives. By having someone else there to worry about the pictures, this allows your husband, mom, dad, your best friend, your sister, whomever, to be where you need them, beside you, with you... holding your hand and helping you through this amazing task of becoming a mother. If there is one day that you need to remember- in every aspect, make it this day, because your life will never be the same.

How much does this cost?
Please contact me for details.

Aside from your contracted time, what do we receive from this service?
My most popular option includes all the digital negatives in black and white on DVD, mini-maternity session, newborn session, up to 20 matted 4x6 bordered prints from combined sessions, one memorable tile, DVD slideshow set o music from the birth, and a 10x10 20-page documentation album, and a $200 print credit. Most clients add a 1st/48 session to complete their birth and pregnancy experience.
The second option includes up to 15 matted 4x6 bordered prints from the birth, DVD slideshow set to music, a $50 print credit, and a memorable tile.

When will we get our prints and products back?
In about 2-3 weeks after delivery. Some products can take a bit longer, such as albums.

When will you arrive, and do you stay after our baby is born?
I'll arrive during active labor, and stay a few hours after the baby is born to capture tender first moments.

What can we do for you?
Birth and labor is very unpredictable, but if you can try to give me as much notice as possible when you start laboring, that would be amazing. Please do not text me, call me... 2am, 4am doesn't matter, call me.
If you are having an out-of-hospital experience, please try to not use white towels. The pictures will be so much better using dark towels and easier to expose when on the fly.

When should we book?
As soon as possible. I schedule only 2 birth sessions a month, so it's important to contact me as early as you can to get on the calendar.

Do you have gift certificates and referral awards?
Yes, I do. Please contact me to arrange. Referrals are so important, and I reward kindly :) I love my clients!

Can we see a slideshow?
Absolutely! I invite you to experience my own labor and delivery of my daughter Natalie. The images are not graphic in any way, in fact they are some of my most cherished! Click here to watch the slide show in a new window. It's about 3 minutes long.

Is your other 'photographer' a PPA Photographer?

Being a member of the PPA shows my clients that I am passionate about my career. Membership in a professional association is expensive, time consuming, and rewarding. It shows a level of commitment to my profession and by having these credentials, you are able to determine if I am the right photographer for you.

There are a lot of photographers in Denver. There are a lot of folks who know how to take really great pictures, or they have a "really nice camera". Just because a photographer isn't credentialed, doesn't mean they are any less talented than those of us who are. It just means that we who have spent money and time in obtaining these important credentials, that we are invested in our careers financially and professionally. Having this status guarantees a pleasant and professional experience with us.

So what... I'm a PPA Photographer. Does that mean you pay extra fees and higher costs to contract me? Nope. Does it mean that you'll have a snooty photographer only looking for a pay-day. Absolutely not. Does it mean you'll receive better customer service and products? Possibly. Does being a PPA Photographer mean that everyone who isn't a member is not a professional? It's very possible that statement is somewhat true.

Devastation is hard to deal with. It's hard to determine what would happen if exposure wasn't checked as your baby is being born, or worse, the photographer gave false information on past experiences with birth, as in no experience. What if the photographer who charges a hundred dollars less didn't back up regularly, a drive failed, and they weren't insured to have the data recovered. I've had drives fail, 2 in 6 months. It happens. Cards fail. Cameras fail. Computers crash. It happens.

I back-up regularly, almost nightly, thus my expenses are a little higher to ensure your images are safely stored on 3 different routine systems. I am insured. I use high-end equipment and software. I can teach and I haven't stopped learning. I invest time that could be spent with my own family, on your family. YOU are important to me. Your kids, are very important to me.

For your own comfort, I have many testimonials and references. I can honestly say that I've photographed many births, and I can show you images from those births. As a client you wouldn't be choosing my services based on just my word, you can choose whether or not you like my work! That's important. You can find me on the PPA registry, and in the BBB.

I wish the best for you, should you choose not to work with me, but please do make an informed decision. Ask for referrals, look for testimonials, does the photographer volunteer at all and who do they volunteer with, are they insured, and what are their credentials.

Some other factors to consider:

Photographer Talent - Many photographers cannot afford certification, or are too busy to keep renewing their certification. Do not overlook related experience and exceptional talent.
Costs - Some photographers cost more than others, often for a good reason. Understand the saying "You Get What Your Pay For" has its merits. Visit this site for an informed insight on choosing a professional photographer: http://www.professionalchildphotographer.com
Digital / Film - There are disadvantages to both film and digital. It's worth conducting some research.
Liability / Archiving - Some photographers may not keep a backup of their work, consult their common practices.

Knowledge is power :)

Once you've paid your $50 retainer and reserved your session, I'll send you a special password to access my 2010 Product Book. It's pretty :)

Ladies, please wear your makeup slightly heavier then you normally would. Do not get your hair cut, colored, or permed directly before your photography session with Tonee Lawrence Photography. Try to do this at least a week before. I suggest 3/4 or full length sleeves, and try to keep the tan lines under control. Also, remember to wear nude colored underclothing to prevent any color mishaps.

Gentlemen, please cut your hair a week before your photography session with Tonee Lawrence Photography, and please shave the night before our photography session with Tonee Lawrence Photography. I know you LOVE your dirty old sneakers, but please don't wear them. Try sandals, clean sneakers, or dress shoes, and please remember to coordinate your socks! Otherwise I might make you bare your feet... gasp!

Every photography session with Tonee Lawrence Photography is different depending on what type of photography session it is…. Seniors are fun and funky, we’ll visit as many locations as we need too, I only schedule one a day. Children need to feel comfortable with their surroundings and myself… I will take as much time as I need too with them. I am also a mother and understand the apprehensions of children with strangers, and therefore will only schedule one photography session with Tonee Lawrence Photography for that full day.

Newborn Sessions:
Please crank your heat up and strip your little buddy down to his or her diaper. Lay a light blanket across your baby if you need to. If your child becomes uneasy, cranky, etc., we’ll take a play break and recoup. However if he or she becomes inconsolable, I will have no choice but to end the photography session with Tonee Lawrence Photography and reschedule to another day if I need to. Rescheduling is always at my discretion.
We will always shoot until we fill at least one full card.

Birth Photography:
Trust me... I understand the need for privacy. I understand the pain having 3 children of my own. Therefore, I have no problems stepping out of the room if you need me to. I'll capture your wonderful, priceless experience of child birth in a discreet manner, capturing only what you request. This is one experience that you will want to remember. Those first moments are truly priceless. I am proud to show anyone who is interested the birth of my own daughter, captured by my husband, and compiled into a beautiful slide show. All you need to do is relax.

Post Processing:
This will take approximately one full week to 2 weeks, and you will be shown between 30 or more images. Any image that does not meet my strict standards, is permanently deleted. If you do not see all the images, it’s because of technical difficulties with the image itself, or it wasn’t one of my favored poses/shots. All images are ran thru a series of conversions, batches, and processing that makes each special. You will have 5 days to complete your order and submit at least a $150 order.

Pretty Jane Boudoir Photography FAQ's:
1. Who takes the pictures?
I do. Only me and I work alone. You are more then welcome to bring a female friend with you. No males are allowed at the sessions.

2. How much does a boudoir session cost?
Please visit the pages on the blog and website to find the rates. On average, clients spend around $600-$1200.

3. How much retouching is done on the digital files? Can I buy them?
Image files are available for purchase. Every image is individually hand retouched to a publishable level, though not to the suggested 'album' level.

4. What is 'album' level retouching?
'Album' level post processing is the extent that I will take an image that will be featured in an purchased photographic album or that will be an enlargement. This form of processing is extremely time consuming and would include any tattoo removals, tan lines, stray hairs, etc. Proofs can be brought to this level for $45 per image, or $100 per boudoir photography session with Tonee Lawrence Photography Pretty Jane Boudoir. Should you have tan lines, I can recommend my favorite makeup artists to help you minimize their appearance.

In The News: Tonee Lawrence Photography
Military Portraits Operation Love Reuited, by Alice Miller

For several years, thousands of U.S. families have endured repeated military deployment of loved ones. In September 2006, Colorado-based photographer and military spouse Tonee Lawrence started Operation: Love Reunited (OLR) to capture the emotional homecomings and separations of families who are often too overwhelmed with emotions to focus on taking pictures.

Says Tonee, “My husband had deployed to Qatar in January 2005 and when he returned in May ’05 we were too emotional to take pictures. My boys were so excited to see their dad, but without pictures we had nothing to help them remember that day.”

Sixteen months later, OLR served its first client—Tonee’s best friend—when Tonee took several pictures of her friend with her three children and sent them to her husband in Iraq. “As far as I know, we are still the only organization whose policies and guidelines have been fully reviewed and approved by the Department of Defense,” she says.

Today, Operation: Love Reunited is a photographer-run program with an administration board comprised of Tonee Lawrence, its president; Hawaii-based military spouse and photographer Gina Geigley, vice president; Oklahoma-based photographer Angela Beene-Wilkes, secretary; Tonee’s husband, Ssgt. Craig Lawrence, treasurer; Pennsylvania-based photographer Jarett Klum, IT, advisor and board member; Fort Bliss, Texas-based Captain Benjamin Carpenter, military liaison; Carmen Moyer, associate director of Colorado-based St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation; Michelle Dubois, Minnesota-based photographer, board member; Breezy Cranford, Virginia-based military spouse and photographer, board member; and Gina Brauner, Florida-based military spouse, board member.

Operation: Love Reunited in Action
The program is made possible by the dedication and generous spirit of the more than 930 photographers across the U.S. who are completely self-funded. Most have a connection to the military, through a spouse, other relative or prior military service. “We would love to be able to cover the photographers’ travel expenses and photographic expenses,” says Tonee. “Aside from showing our gratitude, it would help the organization attract more volunteers for our widespread events, which have received great interest since our Fort Bliss event in April 2009.”

Military members may participate with their families if they have received orders to deploy overseas, are currently deployed overseas or are coming home from an overseas deployment. Thousands of families have benefited from the program. When contacted by a family, a participating photographer arranges a photo session—waiving the fee—during which he or she captures the events and emotions of the family’s time together, then ships a 4x6 album to the deployed military member, at no cost to the family.

Kimbra Orr, owner of Littleton, Colorado-based Kimbra Studios (kimbrastudios.com), was motivated to support Operation: Love Reunited because she has a niece and nephew serving in Iraq. “I understand the difficulties involved for the families,” says Kimbra, who donates two dog tag necklaces from her line of fine photo jewelry to every participating family nationwide. “We have received wonderful e-mails from soldiers and their spouses saying how meaningful it is for them to keep each other close to their hearts while they are apart.”

Looking ahead, Tonee hopes to encourage other photographers to join so they can share the workload when a large deployment or homecoming is approaching. “I hope to be able to raise enough money to have conventions where our members can learn from each other and hear from military personnel about how the organization has helped them while away from home. These stories are inspirational and helpful to other photographers,” says Tonee.

Family Feedback
Families are quick to express their gratitude to OLR. Here are just a few of the thank-you notes received:

—“Our daughter was only nine months old when my husband came home from his first deployment with the Navy. I was so busy watching over her at his homecoming I wasn’t able to take the pictures I had dreamed of for so many months. Fortunately, an Operation: Love Reunited photographer took ‘Come Home Soon’ and ‘Welcome Home’ pictures for us. Our daughter will be 16 months when my husband returns from his second deployment, and I would love to have a photograph of my daughter welcoming home her daddy. Operation Love Reunited is the best thing I have come across since being in the military. Thank you for your wonderful images!”—Shannon

—“We had our session yesterday, and since my husband leaves tomorrow, our photographer proofed our session overnight so he could pick the photos he wanted. She was awesome! When I contacted her Thursday night, she agreed to do a last-minute session so we could have our hero with us after he left. I am truly thankful for the opportunity she gave us through this operation! I am sending all my FRG contacts this information, because I think it is so important to the soldiers and their families.”—Amy

—“I recently received the photo album and wanted to send you a short note to say thank you! We are very grateful for you and your colleagues. It means a lot to those of us away from home. You really made my day! Thank you again and all the best in the new year.”—Ron, deployed to Saudi Arabia

—“There is nothing more wonderful than having moments captured to get you through deployment and to celebrate the feelings of homecoming over and over again. As often as our troops are gone right now, sometimes all anyone has to hold on to is a picture. I know firsthand how amazing it is to see your child recognize his daddy from a picture and to see your baby reach for your hero and watch him hug your baby while tears stream down both of your faces. It is so important every family has those memories always.”—Jessica

As oftentimes happens with family portraiture, military families tell OLR their photos have taken on even greater significance when families suffer a loss of life. “Support your troops,” says Tonee. “OLR is a very emotionally rewarding organization to which to donate your time.”

"I have a high patience level for children, and never rush a new mother and her newborn baby during a photograph session. As a parent I know newborns leave that fresh stage and become babies very quickly, growing rapidly. Then suddenly they are toddlers, then children, tweens, teens and seniors, then finally adults. Parents just do not realize how fast time flies - until it's too late!" Tonee's senior pictures are a vibrant, funky and fresh alternative to the school's traditional photographer. "The seniors who come to me, love my creativity and ability to reflect them and their personalities through my open photography sessions. I don't restrict them to a tree, I'd rather get to know the senior, what they like to do, their hobbies, where they go; then create images, albums, and photos that they can love, right along side of their parents. I want them to show their friends and be all 'Oh yeah, that's me, this is my photographers card, call her!'"

Tonee has relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas from Denver, Colorado in the Fall of 2010. She travels between Colorado and Arkansas for her portrait and boudoir and wedding photography clients.
